Taj Global
Understanding is a non-profit organization, formed to create a
foundation for world peace through mutual understanding, dialogue,
human interaction, and global thought. Taj Global Understanding (TGU)
offers unique volunteer programs to India, programs which provide a
unique insight into Indian culture. Taj Global Understanding
welcomes international students for short term exchange programs to
the United States, programs which blend culture, education, &
volunteer service. In addition, TGU is engaged in humanitarian
work as well as the creative arts. Taj Global Understanding
welcomes the participation of global citizens, regardless of race,
creed, gender, or ethnicity.
Philosophy:
Taj Global Understanding seeks to help create a world which fosters
an appreciation and an understanding of humanity. It is often
written about the 20th Century and the lessons of Tolerance that
were learned. It is the hope of Taj Global Understanding that the
21st Century can move beyond the notion of ‘tolerating’ other
cultures, other nations, other faiths, other people to the creation
of a world in which we learn to appreciate and understand one
another. It is very easy to complete our ‘life cycle’ within a very
limited context. Often times our only true exposure to life outside
of our box is that of the media, whether it be a news program, a
documentary film, a magazine headline, or even a commercial
Hollywood blockbuster. These images and these texts present only
one side of a multi layered story.
Changing the
world is possible through a single act, if that is multiplied across
continents and across time. A volunteer taking that step to spend
their time and money to visit a place such as India, to roll up
their sleeves and sweat, has the power to influence dozens,
hundreds, even thousands of people through that single humanitarian
act. The root cause of many of the problems facing the world today
results from a lack of education. And this does not mean only
education of a Developing Nation’s poorest citizens, but the
education of the Western world as well. There are always two sides
to every story. |
