BUILDING BRIDGES
Exchange students are ‘Ambassadors’ to the United States, representing their own culture, values, history, and country. Whether you choose to participate in a One Year/ Semester, Short Term, Internship, or Work & Travel program, you create a link and build a bridge between countries. And it is in building these links, that the more understanding and awareness is created in the world. The experience of a single individual exchange student can have an impact on dozens, hundreds, and even thousands of people. International students bring much needed diversity and global perspective to parts of the United States, while exposing the exchange student to a life and culture which is not reflected on television or in the movies, but real American Culture.
Working as a waiter at a resort in Wyoming, you may learn of the punctuality and work ethics in the United States, while learning that America is not only an urban landscape, but a land full of vast scenic beauty
As an Intern on the 45th floor in downtown Chicago, you may represent the young and dynamic Indian student and dismay images or social stereotypes about other countries and other ways of life.
As a one year student, living in the middle of Iowa, you may feel you are not in America, but represent the only diversity in a small community, as you may be the only ‘foreign’ student.
Exchange Programs serve a vital importance in the world today and Taj Global Understanding endorses the need to expand these programs into other parts of society, creating more dialogue, more openness, and more understanding in the world.
